News: ISDDE 2011 Prize winner Jan de Lange

The 2011 ISDDE (International Society for Design and Development in Education) Prize for design and education has been awarded to Jan de Lange, former director of the Freudenthal institute. The 2011 Prize of $10,000 was offered for a substantial body of work over a period of years that shows excellence in design for education in science or mathematics. Mission FI-US

The mission of FI-US is to establish a comprehensive network of collaborating researchers, teachers and developers. The activities of FI-US focus on:

  • Supporting development of teachers' classroom assessment practices.
  • Design of comparative achievement studies.
  • Developing curricula at several levels of detail, from teaching, learning and assessment trajectories to classroom materials for students, teachers and parents.
  • Building leadership capacity in school districts through professional communities.
  • Collaboration in education (e.g. supervision PhD-students).

History
In 2003 the Freudenthal Institute - USA (FI-US) was established as a result of the collaboration that had existed for years already between the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the USA. In Fall 2005, FI-US relocated to the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA.

FIsme
The Freudenthal Institute for science and mathematics education (FIsme) aims to improve education in the fields of arithmetic, mathematics, and the sciences, with a focus on primary, secondary and vocational education. The Institute contributes towards this aim through research, teaching, curriculum development and services.

CU Boulder
Mission statement: The Boulder campus of the university of Colorado shall be a comprehensive graduate research university with selective admissions standards, and shall offer a comprehensive array of undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degree programs.

School of Education
The mission of the School of Education includes several, interconnected elements. Faculty conduct research to improve educational policies and classroom practice, prepare researchers at the doctoral level, educate teachers at the undergraduate and masterís levels in high quality programs, and provide exceptional services to our partner school districts and Colorado.
