Mathematics and Science in vocational education, supported by new ITRecently the Dutch vocational education system has been dramatically changed in order to have a more smooth connection between education and job practice. This also means that mathematics and science education must fully support the development and learning of practical skills. For mathematics and science education TWIN is developing a new curriculum that will carry out these new insights. ObjectivesThe main objective of this project is to develop and implement a new curriculum for mathematics and science education. Both teacher and student level are investigated in order to have an optimal implementation. Other objectives are: The development of information technology as structural part of the new curriculum. TWIN is using already developed strong tools (for both network / internet and stand-alone solutions). Here you can think of software like: Electronic Workbench, Interactive Physics, Geometer's Sketchpad, etc. TWIN is also developing new tools that are part of the new curriculum, having the advantage of a fully integrated approach of curriculum development. The development of a new assessment approach within the boundaries of vocational education, that effectively measures the progress of the students. A strong network of teacher training, both initial and on the site. PartnersThe project is carried out by the Freudenthal Institute (mathematics education), the Polytechnics School of Utrecht (science education), the Dutch Institute for Curriculum Development (teacher support) and a commercial publisher (SMD, Leiden). The Regional Centre for Education (ROC) Graafschap College is the leading institute in the field of vocational education that carries out the project, together with 5 other pilot-schools and a large number of Dutch vocational schools that are connected to the TWIN project. Within the project there is a growing number of teachers who are connected to the teacher training and the development of materials. TWIN management teamdrs. M.J.A.M. van Gils, drs.
